Lindbergh School District bands, choirs hit all the right notes at recent festivals

Lindbergh School District music students and staff again distinguished themselves with outstanding performances at the annual Choir, Orchestra and Band Large Ensemble Festival, and the High School Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.

“Our ratings at these events are incredible and reflect the high caliber of our performers and our instructors,” Jeff DiLallo, district music coordinator, stated in a Lind-bergh School District news release.

“The teachers who are teaching are energetic and inspiring, and the students are engaged in learning,” he said. “You can see the results throughout the district. It is all rolled into a love of learning.”

A love of learning and a love of music were evident at the festivals, as choirs, orchestras, bands, individual musicians and small groups wowed the judges, the news release stated.

To evaluate school performance, the judges use a number rating system, where the No. 1 rating equals “superior,” a No. 2 rating is “excellent” and a No. 3 is “good,” according to the news release.

Each band performs at the festivals and receives its own rating.

Lindbergh choirs earned superior ratings for Sperreng’s Sixth-Grade Choir, Eighth-Grade Concert Choir, Choral Choir, which is the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade ex-tracurricular choir, and Lindbergh High School’s A Capella Choir.

The Seventh-Grade Concert Choir, the Eighth-Grade Women’s Choir and the High School Women’s Choir received ex-cellent ratings. The Sperreng choirs are di-rected by Jason Martin, Leah Luciano and student teacher Alison Grawitch.

The High School choir directors are Laura Swearingen and Connie Mulch.

Under the direction of Michelle Howard, Sue Rola and Ken Rapini, Sperreng or-chestras received three superior ratings for the sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

At Lindbergh High School, the Sym-phony Orchestra earned a superior rating and the Chamber Orchestra mustered an excellent rating.

Sperreng Middle School’s Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Bands both received superior ratings under the direction of Brian Wyss, Dan Arana and Jeremy McMahon.

The Lindbergh High School Symphonic Band received a superior rating and the Concert Band received an excellent score.

Bob Spiegelman and Arana direct the Symphonic Band, while Jeff DiLallo, Ken Rapini and Arana direct the Concert Band.
