Lindbergh school buildings get secure vestibules

As part of Lindbergh Schools’ Proposition R no-tax-rate-increase bond issue in April 2019, voters approved funding safe, future-ready campuses across Lindbergh with single, secure main entrances at three elementary and two middle schools, including Crestwood Elementary School, Long Elementary School and Sperreng Middle School. The district held ribbon-cuttings in September for the new secure vestibules, which add locks and drop windows to make students and staff safer.

Construction for the secure vestibules happened this summer while schools were closed. Two more secure vestibules are set to be constructed next summer at Truman Middle School and Kennerly Elementary School. The remaining schools already have secure vestibules from more recent expansions or construction.

“They’re a great addition to our entrances and our safety,” said Lindbergh Chief Financial Officer Joël Cracchiolo at a Board of Education workshop Oct. 13, adding, “It’s exciting to see the staff in those buildings and now students in those buildings.”

Cracchiolo and her staff are already working on construction for the vestibules at Truman and Kennerly, which will be more complicated than the three built this year since they will require more construction.

“We’re already working on plans and details for that. Summer will be here before you know it,” said Cracchiolo. “With construction it goes by fast.”

Before Prop R passed, Superintendent Tony Lake said, “I think people see the need of the safety and having that equity across all the schools in our district and having that vestibule and secure entry where you have access to student populations and teachers.”
