A mix of new faces along with a solid core of returning state qualifiers is a recipe for an interesting season, according to Lindbergh boys swimming and diving head coach Tim Lombardo.
“We’ve got a lot of new faces, which means we’re pretty inexperienced this season,” Lombardo said. “But, we’ve got a couple of guys coming back with state experience, so it’s going to be an interesting year.”
Senior Shawn Gill is a freestyle specialist who competed at last year’s Class 2 State Championships. Gill saw action at state in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle as well as the 200-yard freestyle relay.
“Shawn’s a guy that is mainly going to be a freestyler for us,” Lombardo said. “He can really swim anything from the 50 to the 500 free, but he started sprinting well for us at the end of last season. He’s going to need to step it up in those free events in order for us to be successful.”
Another senior who competed at last year’s state championships in the 100-yard backstroke is Sean Greenwood. But the Flyers head coach sees Greenwood competing in a variety of events this season.
“Sean’s going to have to be a strong relay swimmer for us as well as swim the 100 back, 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley,” Lombardo said. “We’re really going to have to rely on him a lot this season.”
Senior Zach Hallemann is a sprint freestyle specialist who swam on last year’s 200-yard freestyle relay at the state championships. The Flyers should see him compete on all three relays this season.
“Zach is a sprint freestyler that can fit into all three of our relays this year,” Lombardo said. “He’s developing into a stronger swimmer with better legs. That alone will be super important for him this year.”
August Hromadka is another senior who’s a sprint freestyler who swam on last year’s 200-yard freestyle relay at the state championships.
“August is another sprint freestyler for us, and we’re going to need him to step it up for us this year,” Lombardo said. “In order for us to be successful at state this year, we’re going to need some big swims out of him.”
Senior Porter Colbert will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke as well as the 200-yard individual medley and the medley relay this season.
“He’ll be competing for a spot on that medley relay for us this year,” Lombardo said. “I believe that Porter is poised to have some big swims for us at conference or even state.”
The Flyers start the 2025 season at home on Sept. 2 against Clayton.
