As the 2024 season arrives, the Lindbergh boys swimming and diving team hopes a tremendous amount of depth will propel them to success in dual meet competition.
“Our numbers are looking pretty good,” Lindbergh head coach Tim Lombardo said. “I think we’ll be a very good conference team, and we’ll have a lot of our guys qualify for state this year. The key will be finding ways to get them to score. I really do believe that we can do some good things with this group.”
Seniors Nick Turner and Lucas Donze are expected to contribute significantly to the Flyers’ success in 2024.
“Both Nick and Lucas can qualify in several different events,” Lombardo said. “They’re going to be our versatility guys in our dual meets and I think that both of them have a really good shot at scoring at state individually this year.”
In the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events will be senior Colin Rolwes.
“He’ll be a really important part of our relays this year,” Lombardo said. “We see him as one of our top sprint freestyle specialists.”
Senior George Moran is another versatile swimmer who can compete in a variety of events for the Flyers this season.
“George is going to push for some spots on this year’s lineup,” Lombardo said. “He can pretty much swim every event for us and is another guy that will give us a lot of versatility in our dual meet lineup.
Ryan McCray is another senior that the Flyers’ head coach believes will have a bigger role this year.
“He can swim the 50 and 100-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard butterfly,” Lombardo said. “We think he’s going to have a bigger role on this year’s team and is going to be one of those guys that really steps it up for us this season.”
Another sprint freestyler with experience on the relay teams is junior Zach Hallemann.
“Zach swam on our 200-yard freestyle relay team last year and will probably swim the 50 and 100-yard freestyle,” Lombardo said. “He comes into this year with the experience of swimming on the relay, and we’re looking for him to build on that this season.”
The Flyers start the 2024 season on Tuesday at Clayton.
