Lindbergh High School senior Rachel Maxwell was among a handful of students recently awarded for going above and beyond at the 2011 Students and Teachers as Research Scientists, or STARS, program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Junior Aditya Dommaraju and senior Jacob Luciani also participated in STARS, which pairs students with research mentors from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in Creve Coeur, Saint Louis University, the Solae company, Washington University in St. Louis and UMSL.
Rachel’s exceptional performance earned her an LMI Aerospace/D3 Technologies Award for Excellence in Research. During her summer, Rachel worked in the lab of James Chickos, professor of chemistry at UMSL, on an investigation titled “Vaporization Enthalpies of Ibuprofen and Naproxen by Correlation-gas Chromatography.”
