After reaching the championship game at the Missouri Class 3, District 1 tournament last season, the Lindbergh girls tennis team hopes that a solid senior class will take the Flyers to the next level.
“We’re looking really good this year,” Lindbergh head coach Chloe McIsaac said. “We have a very strong senior class and only lost one player from last year’s varsity team.”
Senior Kate Davidson returns as one of the Flyers’ co-captains and is expected to have a great season.
“When she’s in the zone, Kate’s great at attacking the ball,” McIsaac said. “She’s a great athlete, and I expect her to have a great year.”
Belle Daniels is Lindbergh’s other senior co-captain, and the Flyers head coach hopes her maturity on the court sets an example for the younger players on the squad.
“Belle is super consistent and very level-headed,” McIsaac said. “She comes with a lot of maturity, which is great for our younger players to see.”
Olivia Mattock is another senior who brings a wealth of experience this year. “She returns with a lot of experience from the past couple of years,” McIsaac said. “She’s comfortable at the baseline, but her forehand is really her biggest weapon.”
Helen Froidl is a junior who has seen improvement during the offseason.
“Helen spent quite a bit of time at a tennis camp this summer in Texas, and I’ve seen some drastic improvement,” McIsaac said. “Her consistency has improved to compliment the power that she has.”
McIssac said junior Mira Wissel is a scrappy player that gives opponents fits every time she’s out on the court.
“She works hard and runs down more balls than anyone out there,” the coach said. “She knows how to push and stretch out every point against her opponents.”
Another Davidson to watch this season is sophomore Jocelyn Davidson.
“She plays a lot with Kate in the offseason and it’s been awesome to see how much she’s improved since last season,” Stout said.
The Flyers begin the 2024 season on Tuesday against Ursuline Academy at Chaminade.
