On Nov. 8, the St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges against Michael Belleville, 51, of Lemay, for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and resisting/interfering with a felony arrest. The accident in question is the June 26 fatal striking of motorcyclist Tyler Grosvenor, 30.
Belleville is being held on a $250,000 cash-only, no 10% bond. Charges are merely an accusation. Grosvenor is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The St. Louis County Police Department says that Belleville was driving a 2010 gold Nissan Altima when he made a turn into a convenience store, coming from northbound South Broadway Avenue. Simultaneously, Grosvenor was going southbound on a motorcycle on the same street.
Belleville and Grosvenor collided, and the motorcyclist was seriously injured. Belleville fled from the scene and abandoned his vehicle when it broke down a short distance from the location of the accident. Grosvenor was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Upon investigation, officers found an abandoned car with airbags deployed. The airbags had been bloodied, and the DNA of that blood matched Belleville’s.
On Nov. 7, officers went to Belleville’s last known address in an attempt to locate him. The homeowner allowed police to use a canine to search for Belleville, who was found hiding in the basement. He had several felony warrants for failure to appear and parole violations, which he said he was aware of while being arrested.
