Kiwanis, Key clubs collect canned goods

Kiwanis, Key clubs collect canned goods

The Kiwanis Club of South County recently conducted its “One Day” project in cooperation with the two Key Clubs it sponsors — one at Mehlville High School and the second at Oakville High School.

The idea of Kiwanis’ “One Day” is for the Kiwanis family of clubs to show the community how much can be accomplished in one day when they work together, according to a news release.

Since Kiwanis International is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the Kiwanis Club of South County suggested to its two Key Clubs that they all collect at least 100 canned goods to be donated to Mehlville High School’s “Give Back” backpack program.

The program provides a backpack full of nonperishable food items to needy students to take home on Friday so the students will not go hungry over the weekend when they do not have the availability of free or reduced breakfasts and lunches.

The three clubs combined to collect collect 427 nonperishable food items for the backpack program.
