Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department and Regional Bomb and Arson Unit are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred Monday in Affton.

According to police, officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct responded to a call for service Monday at 8:59 p.m. for a house fire in the 8300 block of South Laclede Station Road. Fire and emergency medical services found Gene Uetrecht, 58, inside the residence unresponsive. Uetrecht was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Investigators said the fire appears to be accidental and originated in the kitchen.
