Difficult to limit candidates for Most Misguided Quotes

‘Call the Tune’ by Mike Anthony

It was difficult to limit the choices for Most Misguided Quotes of the second quarter of 2016.

But consider these candidates for the Call’s annual tradition, in which we chronicle the most misguided, misinformed and misleading statements of the year.

In Crestwood, during a lengthy discussion of a new lease for The Barn restaurant in April, Ward 2 Alderman Mary Stadter made a motion to approve the lease as negotiated. Before a second could be made, Mayor Gregg Roby said he would allow additional discussion.

After a protracted discussion, then-Ward 3 Alderman Bill Boston said,

Unfortunately, comments like that were indicative of Boston’s last year on the board — a sharp contrast to his first two years of service.

Sunset Hills Ward 3 Alderman Keith Kostial has generated controversy over the fact that he has attended more meetings via videoconferencing than in person since December. He attended a May 24 work session by FaceTime through an iPad.

Ward 4 Alderman Thompson Price criticized Kostial’s FaceTime attendance, saying Kostial had an obligation to attend meetings in person, “which means being here, seeing each other, body language that you would never see on a videoconference …”

Kostial later told aldermen, who couldn’t see him because the iPad was facing the audience.

Ward 2 Alderman Steve Bersche has called Kostial the “Robo Alderman,” but we prefer to think of Kostial as Sunset Hills’ own Max Headroom.

Then we have Crestwood’s Ismaine Ayouaz, whose unsuccessful candidacy for the Ward 4 aldermanic seat in the April 5 election has cost the city more than $6,000 in legal fees.

In an April 15 Facebook post, he wrote,

Yet, all of the expenses cited in the Call’s article were categorized under “legal opinions” in invoices submitted by legal counsel Lashly & Baer.

Just consider the source. After all, Ayouaz swore he was qualified to be on the April ballot, yet the board apparently was prepared to not seat him had he won election.
