Lindbergh High School and Crestwood Elementary School learned Tuesday that they have been named 2011 National Schools of Character by the Character Education Partnership.

The two Lindbergh schools are among 43 schools and one school district nationwide to receive the honor this year, according to a news release.

Crestwood Elementary School’s ongoing programs recognize good sportsmanship, encourage appreciation of cultures and develop friendships among grade levels. LHS’ vision for developing positive character is reflected in its symbolic “Six Pillars of Character” graphic, which is prominently displayed throughout the school and reinforces the traits of respect, citizenship, fairness, responsibility, trustworthiness and caring.

“Schools of character are places that bring out the best in everyone – students, staff, and even parents and community members,” stated NSOC Director Lara Maupin. “This year, a record number of schools demonstrated school cultures that enable all their students to thrive socially and academically. These schools went through a very rigorous evaluation process and we are thrilled to recognize their achievements and tell their stories.”

Lindbergh Schools, a National District of Character, is now home to five National Schools of Character, including Long, Sappington and Kennerly elementary schools as well.
