County resources available during heat wave

With excessive heat expected to continue through the end of the week, St. Louis County has resources available for residents to deal with the heat.

Some resources available include:

  • $1 million from the Department of Human Services to Cool Down St. Louis to help pay utility bills. For more information, visit cooldownstlouis.org or call 314-241-0001.
  • The county and Salvation Army are operating a cooling shelter at 10740 Page Ave., 63132. The cooling shelter provides hot meals, laundry facilities and case management services. It can accomodate up to 30 individuals at a time. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To access the shelter, call United 211 or Salvation Army-Family Haven at 314-423-7770. Loaves and Fishes is also operating an overflow emergency shelter. For more information, call 314-279-7036.
  • Free indoor walking is being offered at The Pavilion at Lemay, 305 Gregg Road, and North County Recreation Complex, 2577 Redman Road, during regular operating hours through Friday.

An excessive heat warning remains across the area through Friday.

“Please check on your neighbors and loved ones during this extreme heat,” County Executive Sam Page stated in a press release Tuesday. “And please take advantage of our County resources. it only a takes a few minutes during these dangerous conditions to become seriously ill.”
