Chamber plans Sunset Hills tornado cleanup

The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help clean up Sunset Hills following last week’s EF3 tornado.

Volunteers will work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow — Saturday, Jan. 8 — to clean up areas of the city affected by the New Year’s Eve storm.

The cleanup will focus on Watson Trail Park, but the scope of the work may expand if enough people volunteer, according to Mary Ann McWilliams, the chamber’s executive director.

Volunteers should park at South Technical High School, 12721 W. Watson Road, and shuttles will take them to the work areas. Volunteers should arrive before 11 a.m., when West Watson Road will close. It will re-open at 4pm. Volunteers should wear gloves and bring rakes and shovels if possible, McWilliams stated.

Various radio stations also will broadcast from the area and will accept monetary donations, she said.
