A 29-year-old Oakville man was fatally shot at 1:21 a.m. today — May 11 — by St. Louis County Police who said he pointed an assault rifle at them when opening the door of his apartment.
Andrew P. Bush, who lived at the Villa Apartments in the 4400 block of El Paulo Court, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
Shortly after 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from the parking lot of KT Smokehouse in the 4500 block of Telegraph Road. When police arrived, a woman and her boyfriend said Bush, who had been inside the establishment, approached them in the parking lot and a fight ensued between the boyfriend and Bush.
The fight quickly was interrupted by onlookers, but Bush jumped into the woman’s car, which was running, and drove away, according to the release.
A quick investigation led officers to Bush’s apartment, where the vehicle, still running, was in front of his building, according to the release.
After two officers knocked on the suspect’s door and identified themselves as police, Bush opened the door and threatened them with the assault rifle, the release. The officers fired rounds from their duty weapons at Bush, ending the threat, the release stated.
The officers were not injured, but were placed on administrative leave until a determination is made from the investigation of the incident.
