Candidate filing for April’s municipal and school board elections opened on Dec. 9 at 8 a.m. Filing will close on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m.
Aldermanic seats are up for election in Sunset Hills and Green Park. Sunset Hills, Green Park and Crestwood will all have mayoral seats up for election.
In addition, seats on the Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place, Lindbergh and Mehlville school boards are up for election.
City of Sunset Hills
In Sunset Hills, the seats of Mayor Pat Fribis, Ward 1 Alderman Ann McMunn, Ward 2 Alderman Casey Wong, Ward 3 Alderman Cathy Friedmann and recently appointed Ward 4 Alderman Mark Colombo will be up for election. These positions all have two-year terms.
Declaration of Candidacy may be filed with the city clerk at Sunset Hills City Hall, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of closing day, which will close at 5 p.m. City offices will be closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 in observance of the holiday, so candidate filing will not be available on those dates. Filing on Dec. 30 will be by appointment only. Appointments must be made by noon on Dec. 29.
It should be noted that there is a $5 filing fee. Candidate qualifications are available in the office of the city clerk and online at www.sunset-hills.com.
City of Green Park
In Green Park, the seats of Ward 1 Alderman Michael Broughton, Ward 2 Alderman Ron Slattery and Ward 3 Alderman Marty Finn are up for election. The three seats carry two-year terms. Slattery — who has served on the board since 2020, and also from 1996-1998 — announced at the board’s November meeting that he will not be running for Ward 2 Alderman in this election.
Also up for election in Green Park is the mayoral seat. Formerly held by Tim Thuston, who resigned in June, the position of mayor holds just a one-year term in this case, as the candidate would be filling Thuston’s unexpired term.
Declaration of Candidacy may be filed at Green Park City Hall, 11100 Mueller Road, Suite 6, while the city hall is open for normal business hours.
City of Crestwood
Crestwood’s mayoral seat, currently held by Scott Shipley, is up for election. This position is a three-year term. Declaration of Candidacy may be filed at the City of Crestwood Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive, at the city clerk’s office.
As of The Call’s press time, Shipley is the only candidate who has filed for the seat.
Affton Board of Education
The seats of the Affton Board of Education’s President Bridget Sinamon, Vice President Justin Carney and Director Jeanette Schoenberg are up for election. These seats carry three-year terms. Affton Board of Education candidates are to file in the superintendent’s office, 8701 MacKenzie Road.
Bayless Board of Education
Two seats on the Bayless Board of Education will be up for election. Candidates are to file at Bayless Central Office, 4530 Weber Road. As of The Call’s press time, the district did not respond to requests for comment.
Hancock Place Board of Education
The seats of the Hancock Place Board of Education’s Garrett Mees, Jean Parshall and Cody Watt are up for election. These seats carry three-year terms. Candidates are required to file at the St. Louis County Board of Elections office, 725 Northwest Plaza Drive, St. Ann.
Mees and Watt have both filed for reelection as of The Call’s press time.
Lindbergh Schools Board of Education
The seats of the Lindbergh Board of Education’s Matt Alonzo, Christy Watz and Andrew Lawson are up for election. These seats carry three-year terms. Candidates are required to file at the St. Louis County Board of Elections office, 725 Northwest Plaza Drive, St. Ann.
As of the Call’s press time, all three incumbents have filed for reelection. Richard Breeding has also filed.
Mehlville School District Board of Education
The seats of the Mehlville Board of Education’s Peggy Hassler, Jean Pretto and Jeff Wolman are up for election. These seats carry three-year terms. Candidates are required to file at the St. Louis County Board of Elections office, 725 Northwest Plaza Drive, St. Ann.
As of the Call’s press time, all three incumbents have filed for reelection, along with a newcomer to public office, Deborah Bush-Munson.
