The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating what the department is calling a suspicious death in the industrial area in Green Park.

The body of an adult man was found around 8:46 a.m. Wednesday in 2 feet of water on the banks of a quarry at 10328 Lake Bluff Drive, in the industrial park in Green Park, police said. The quarry where the body was found is currently filled with water and surrounded by steep embankments.

Police have now positively identified the body as Jesse Goins, 29, of the 100 block of Horn Avenue in Lemay, 63125.

“Goins’ body had no signs of trauma nor broken bones,” police said. “The cause of death is still under investigation.”

When this article was originally published, the body had not been identified yet, but police said the man found matches the description of a 29-year-old man who was reported missing by his family at the South County Precinct around 7:06 p.m. Sept. 27.

The man reported missing, later identified as Goins, had been involved in an earlier interaction with police in the Affton Southwest Precinct, where Green Park is located, at 8:56 a.m. Sept. 24.

In that incident, officers responded to the business at 9832 Evergreen Industrial Drive, in the same Green Park industrial area as the quarry, for a call about suspicious people. Two people were taken into custody without incident for active warrants, while a third one — the 29-year-old who was later reported missing — escaped on foot.

At the time that the 29-year-old escaped, a canine handler and his partner came to the scene to track his last known location, since no officer had pursued the man at the time he took off. The track led west to the 10300 block of Lake Bluff Drive. But the handler decided the terrain was too dangerous and ended the tracking.

When a family member reported the 29-year-old missing, his last known location was reported as a residence in the 100 block of Horn Avenue in Lemay, near the River City Casino.
