The Mehlville Board of Education voted March 17 to approve a bid to fix the kitchen ceiling at Beasley Elementary.
Director of Facilities Mike Gegg said the ceiling is original to the building, which was built in 1970.
“The ceiling is not smooth, clean and wipeable, so they have been getting a one-point deduct from the (St. Louis County)health department the last couple years,” Gegg said.
The project includes replacing the ceiling, lights, HVAC work, paint and electrical upgrades. The project funding is through the Food and Nutrition Department budget and totals $68,919 — $10,000 of which is for the electrical upgrades.
The bid is from Brady Construction, who worked on the Mosaic Elementary kitchen in the past.
