With a strong group of juniors and just three seniors on the roster, the Mehlville girls tennis team could be an interesting bunch to watch in 2025.
“We’ve got a nice group of girls this year,” Mehlville head coach Jill Wojewuczki said. “We’re heavily loaded on juniors this year with just three seniors.”
Senior Alana Lee will be a force in the Panthers’ lineup as she competes for one of the top singles positions this season.
“Alana will be competitive for us and be one of our top four players,” Wojewuczki said. “Her mental game is pretty good and her ground stroke is very consistent.”
Juniors Samantha Allsworth and Adina Muminovic are also showing a lot of promise this year and will too battle for the Panthers’ No. 1 singles spot.
“(Allsworth has) really improved all around from last year to this year,” Wojewuczki said. “Adina’s another person competing for that number one spot. She’s very consistent, which is exactly what we’re looking for from her this year.”
The senior duo of Bridget Roth and Mariam Aburas is poised to provide
Mehlville a combination of experience and leadership this season, while junior Laina Bess is a positive and vocal leader who will see action in singles play this season.
One newer player that Wojewuczki believes has the potential to break into the team’s lineup this year is sophomore Maya Gligoric.
“I think Maya has the potential to make our Top 6 this year,” she said. “She’s very coachable and is willing to make the adjustments to improve her game.”
