The abandoned Aviator Hotel at 6921 Lindbergh Blvd. has been bought. District 6 County Councilman Mike Archer says that the owner has plans to at least partially demolish it.
“The Aviator Hotel went into receivership, essentially foreclosure,” Archer told The Call in September. “It was purchased (Sept. 17) by a new owner.”
Archer met with the developer in October to discuss plans for the abandoned hotel. He says that the owner — currently unnamed — is a buyer from Texas who picked up the property after it went into receivership. The owner, according to Archer, has talked about possibly using the site as a retail development for two stores in the future.
First, demolition will have to take place, though Archer says there has not been an officially announced timeline for when that will begin.
The hotel closed suddenly in 2025 and has stood abandoned since then, reportedly deteriorating over the past year.
Aldermen at the City of Green Park have kept tabs on the Aviator, primarily due to their concerns about the presence of homeless individuals in and around the abandoned hotel.
“I called the Aviator, and they’re going to get back with me, so we can find out their timeline — when they’re going to take the big ball and knock it down. Wowie, I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but they’ve cleaned it up quite a bit,” Green Park Ward 1 Alderman Carol Hamilton said at a recent aldermanic meeting. “They’ve boarded it. They’ve moved out all the furniture. There were some people still there taking out tables when I was there. I was really shocked. So that took care of that.”
