The St. Louis Community College-Mer-amec Theatre,11333 Big Bend Road, will conduct auditions for the world premiere of “1959 St. Ascension” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, and Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The musical by Gary Paben — book and lyrics — and Donna Perrino —music — features five female and seven male principal actors and 12 flexible roles for the chorus.

Those who are auditioning should prepare a song with sheet music in the correct key and one-minute monologue, according to a news release. They should arrive dressed for a dance audition.

Performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 through Oct. 4 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 5.

The story, set in a hospital, unravels the relationships of the people left behind as loved ones experience an endless sleep.

Romantic couples, mystery, guilt, magic and the unexpected punctuate the drama, the release stated.

“1959 St. Ascension” is co-directed by Paben and Michelle Rebollo, with musical direction by Jerry Myers and design by Darren Thompson. For more information, call 314-984-7562.
