The historic sites, museums and privately owned homes of the organization Historic St. Louis will present a splendid grand tour, “A Spirited Holiday Past,”  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The event is moving ahead even as so many other holiday events have been canceled this year.

Three South County attractions are opening their doors for the event:

• Affton’s Oakland House, 7801 Genesta

• Sappington House, 1015 Sappington

• U.S. Grant National Historic Site (White Haven), 7400 Grant Road

Visit the website www.historicsaintlouis.org to see the list of addresses for all 13 venues along with tour suggestions.

Affton’s Oakland House has canceled its annual Santa House event this year, but will be open for this event.

Sappington House will be open with health precautions and a gift shop in The Barn restaurant, which is currently closed due to an indoor dining ban. A “whimsical yet historically accurate” skit about the Sappington cousins getting ready for Christmas will be performed in the parlor throughout the day. From noon to 1 p.m., Anne Willams will be performing a rendition of “A Christmas Carol.”

Sappington House will be open for four days of Christmas shopping in the Loft gift shop at The Barn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday during “A Spirited Holiday Past” and continuing Saturday, Dec. 12. Shoppers can also shop from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 9 and 16.

Create a new holiday tradition of your own as you enjoy a new tour each year. Some sites are free and some are charging a minimal fee.

This multi-site tour does not include all of the 25 sites due to coronavirus conditions, but 13 will be open for tours and two will offer drive-by evening decorations (Historic Hawken House in Webster Groves and Tappmeyer House in Creve Coeur).
