UPDATE: Charges dropped against Lindbergh teacher accused of sexual contact with student

Update: Charges were dropped against the teacher by the prosecuting attorney’s office in November.

A Lindbergh teacher and assistant water polo coach in the Lindbergh School District was charged Thursday with sodomy and sexual contact with a student.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued warrants June 2 for suspect Grant Gaumer, 37, an eight-year teacher at Lindbergh High School and assistant water polo coach.  He has has been charged with two counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and one count of sexual contact with a student.

The probable cause statement alleges that between March 1 and March 31, the defendant had oral and anal sex with the victim, who is less than 17 years old.

In addition to his role as a teacher a coach, Gaumer was also the teacher liaison for the Gay Straight Alliance group at LHS. Because of the suspect’s amount of interaction with students, investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact St. Louis County police detectives at 636-529-8210.

Gaumer is being held on a $500,000, no 10-percent cash bond.

Lindbergh staff have been very cooperative with investigators during the investigation, the police department stated.

Detectives from the department’s Burau of Crimes Against persons are leading the investigation.
