Zuniga withdraws from Democratic primary

Oakville resident Marty Zuniga recently withdrew his name from the Aug. 3 Democratic primary election in the race for the District 100 state House seat.

He sought to fill the seat of Rep. Sue Schoemehl, D-Oakville, who cannot run again due to term limits.

In a letter to supporters, Zuniga said he was withdrawing from the race to “spare my family, friends and supporters the financial expense to defend against an inventive and baseless negative onslaught. I will not be the aggressor or the victim of a negative political campaign …”

Zuniga’s withdrawal leaves Oakville resident Andrew Spavale as the only Democratic candidate in the District 100 race.

He is expected to face Republican candidate Marsha Haefner and Constitution Party candidate Randall “Randy” Lewis, both of Oakville, in the Nov. 2 general election.
