The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on Jan. 12 against suspect Denisa Omanovic, 29, of the 9100 block of Villaridge Court, 63123 for DWI, resisting/interfering with arrest and fourth-degree assault.
Omanovic is being held on a $50,000 cash only, no 10% bond.
The charges are merely accusations. Omanovic is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
According to a probable cause statement, a tobacco shop employee reported that a female, now identified as Omanovic, was yelling, cursing, being aggressive and was possibly intoxicated. Omanovic was in her vehicle when officers arrived on scene. They attempted to make contact with her, but she drove away.
Omanovic was already known by the officers from previous encounters. She was arrested on Jan. 1 in Lincoln County for DWI stemming from a vehicle crash, and on Jan. 7 in St. Charles County for DWI, resisting arrest and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.
After Omanovic left the tobacco shop on Jan. 12, officers canvased for her and observed her driving in her apartment parking lot without her headlights on. Once officers initiated contact with her, she denied consuming alcohol but admitted to smoking “a lot” of marijuana. Though Omanovic denied the consumption of alcohol, several full airplane shooters were in plain view in her vehicle. Additionally, the faint odor of alcohol was on her breath, her eyes were watery, bloodshot and glassy, her balance and gait was unsteady and her speech was slurred and confused.
Omanovic exhibited six of the six clues on the The horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test – a field sobriety test that police use to determine if a driver is under the influence of alcohol – and three out of the four clues on the one leg stand test. The walk and turn test was not performed due to snowy ground conditions. Omanovic refused a preliminary breath test, stating that she already had two DWIs and would not take it.
She was then informed by an officer that she was being placed under arrest. While an officer attempted to place her in handcuffs, Omanovic seized her arms in front of her body, preventing officers from handcuffing her. She also kicked an officer in the thigh in an attempt to prevent the arrest. Once ultimately arrested and placed in the patrol car, she again refused to provide a breath sample.
