With Aug. 3 primary fast approaching, candidates report second-quarter contributions

State and federal campaign finance reports for the last full quarter before the Aug. 3 primary election recently were released by the Missouri Ethics Commission and the Federal Election Commission.

In south county, state House seats are up for election in districts 66, 85, 95, 97 and 100. Seats in the 2nd and 3rd congressional districts also are up for election.

In District 66, incumbent Rep. Michael Vogt, D-Affton, cannot run for re-election because of term limits.

Democrat Genise Montecillo brought in $4,777.39 and spent $3,055.56 from April 1 to June 30. She has $15,055.29 on hand.

Her campaign to win Vogt’s seat so far has raised $21,814.93 and spent $5,641.80.

The MEC did not have a quarterly report from District 66 Republican candidate Bill Hartzog.

Both candidates are unopposed in the primary election.

District 85 state Rep. Vicki Englund, D-Concord, took in $20,000.10 and spent $2,667.68 during the second quarter. She is unopposed in the primary election.

Overall, Englund has raised $53,147.45, spent $12,083.46 and has $33,955.61 on hand for her campaign.

Republican primary candidate Cloria Brown raised $2,669 and spent $2,534.81 during the reporting period, and has $13,056.13 on hand. Overall she has raised $18,395.74 and spent $5,391.09.

Her opponent, Al Faulstich, reported raising $385 and no campaign expenditures during the second quarter. Overall, the Republican has raised $6,680, spent $1,155.49 and has $5,849.51 on hand.

District 95 Rep. Mike Leara, R-Concord, reported $3,640 in contributions and $967.68 in expenditures during the second quarter. Overall he has raised $6,385 and spent $3,023.61. He has $3,876.25 on hand.

Democrat Alice Geary Sgroi, who had filed to challenge Leara this fall, submitted a committee termination statement to the MEC and repaid an outstanding campaign loan.

Constitution Party candidate Steve Newton reported he did not raise or spend more than $500 in the second quarter.

Rep. Pat Yaeger, D-Lemay, cannot run again in District 96 due to term limits.

Democratic candidate Scott Sifton raised $5,054.73 and spent $4,173.54 during the last reporting period.

Overall he has raised $71,518.46 and spent $26,230.24. He reported having $43,415.91 cash on hand.

Republican candidate Anthony “Tony” Leech reported not raising or spending more than $500 last quarter.

Four Republicans and three Democrats are vying for nominations in the race to fill Rep. Walt Bivins’ District 97 seat. The Oakville Republican cannot run for re-election due to term limits.

Republican Chris Brown raised $2,345 and spent $13,092.54 during the second quarter. He has $14,838.36 on hand and $25,000 outstanding debt. Brown overall has raised $34,408.51 and spent $15,153.65.

Primary opponent Gary Fuhr reported raising $12,634.28 and spending $851.77 last quarter, with $29,453.49 on hand. Overall, Fuhr has raised $42,902.86 and spent $3,554.51.

Republican Jerry Little raised $8,201.43 and spent $5,150.27 in the second quarter. He has $782.11 on hand. Little so far has raised $25,133.18 and spent $8,288.88.

William “Bill” Zobrist raised $5,510 and spent $1,216.28 last quarter. He has $20,257.22 on hand. Overall, the Republican has raised $16,416 and spent $1,988.43.

Democrat Jim Barrett reported $10,249.50 in second-quarter contributions and $5,163.15 in expenditures. So far he has raised $40,129.07, spent $15,770.30 and has $22,288.20 on hand.

Rudy Pulido raised $6,381.63 and spent $5,169.88 last quarter. He has $3,953.39 on hand. The Democrat so far has raised $14,551.63, spent $5,169.88 and has $2,500 in debt.

Democratic candidate Jan Polizzi reported no second-quarter contributions and $16.30 in expenditures. She has thus far raised $2,720, spent $704.57 and has $1,425.53.

The MEC did not have a quarterly report from District 97 Constitution Party candidate Daniel Fitzhenry, though it lists his campaign committee.

In District 100, three candidates are vying to fill Rep. Sue Schoemehl’s seat this fall. The Oakville Democrat also cannot run again due to term limits.

Democratic candidate Andrew Spavale reported $10,252.59 in contributions and $2,503.07 in expenditures during the reporting period. He has $7,281.93 on hand and $2,000 in debt.

Republican Marsha Haefner’s campaign reported raising $13,779.20 and spending $4,573.91 during the reporting period.

Overall she has raised $31,236.75 and spent $13,113.92. Haefner reported having $16,158.08 on hand and $3,100 in outstanding debt.

Constitution Party candidate Randall “Randy” Lewis reported not raising or spending more than $500 last quarter.

Looking at this year’s federal races, U.S. District 2 Rep. Todd Akin of St. Louis reported $52,522.20 in second-quarter contributions and $82,620.47 in expenditures. So far he has raised $590,407.40, spent $516,551.42 and has $730,307.92 on hand.

The FEC did not have second-quarter disclosure reports for Akin’s primary challengers, Republicans Jeffrey Lowe and William “Bill” Haas.

Democrat Arthur Lieber raised $954.89 and spent $1,198.22 last quarter in his bid for Akin’s seat. He has $10,274.39 on hand.

The FEC also did not have a second-quarter report for Libertarian candidate Steve Mosbacher.

In U.S. District 3, Democratic Rep. Russ Carnahan reported raising $347,763.92 and spending $208,385.91 during the reporting period. He has raised $1,213,233.23 and spent $708,452.82 overall, and reported having $668,901.04 on hand.

The FEC did not have reports for Carnahan’s primary challengers, Democrats David Arnold and Edward Crim.

District 3 Republican candidate Ed Mar-tin reported second-quarter contributions of $234,328.88 and expenditures totaling $142,160.63.

He has raised $816,606.75 and spent $245,659.22 overall. He has $570,947.64 on hand.

Primary challenger John Wayne Tucker raised $5,130.43 and spent $3,494.53 last quarter. He has $1,745.90 on hand.

The FEC did not have second-quarter reports for the other Republican candidate, Rusty Wallace, or for Libertarian candidate Steven Hedrick and Constitution Party candidate Nicholas “Nick” Ivanovich.
