Winter storm warning in effect for St. Louis area

Winter storm warning in effect for St. Louis area

St. Louis County and the surrounding area are under a winter storm watch Tuesday evening through Thursday. Major impacts are expected with this storm.

The area could see up to 2 inches of sleet and 6 to 9 inches of snow from the storm. Total snow accumilitations are predicted to be between 6 to inches, with locally higher amounts.

Strong wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour combined with snow and ice can down power lines and cause power outages. 

Travel will be difficult and plans should be made to try and avoid it due to slick roads and downed trees or power lines.

Impacted counties include St. Louis city, St. Louis, St. Charles, Warren, Gasconade, Lincoln, Osage, Crawford, Jefferson and Washington in Missouri, and Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Bond, Fayette, Clinton, Calhoun, Jersey, Madison and St. Clair-Monroe counties in Illinois.
