Huelsman’s Jewelers, Inc
Family Owned & Operated Since 1976
In 1971, Hoppy Huelsman was an apprentice for Jaccards Jewelers in downtown St. Louis. The repair department was closed, so after a few years of working other jobs full-time and working a bench out of his flat in south St. Louis, he opened Huelsman’s Jewelers in November of 1976. He did work for many of the chain stores; Venture, Stix, Baer & Fuller and independent smaller jewelry stores.
Sue, his wife, joined Hoppy in 1978. After a few years, their clientele grew so much it outpaced the work from other stores. In 1990, they moved to a larger suite in the Paul Brown Building. March of 1996, the building was sold to rehab lofts and they had six months to relocate.
The Huelsmans found a new location in Sunset Village Shops on South Lindbergh in Sunset Hills 25 years ago.
Huelsman’s Jewelers has been a family owned and operated business for 45 years. Hoppy and Sue’s son, Ryan, joined them fulltime in the summer of 1996. Ryan has had a special art of taking things apart and putting them back together since age 5. He is talented in design and has learned his goldsmith talent from his father.
All work is done in the store except watch repair, engraving and casting. The Huelsman family takes great pride in their work and in the integrity of every piece that is created.
They like their shop to feel comfortable and not intimidating. Their customers are important to them. They find it especially gratifying to now see third generations come through the door.
