The senior-laden Oakville Senior High School water polo team finished the season with a 20-9-1 record and a third-place finish at the state tournament. The Tigers ‘clicked’ at the right time. Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed, the team had its sights set on the final four. With a win over Kirkwood, it meant the Tigers would have to make it by Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School, which already had beaten Oakville twice in the regular season. Oakville came out on fire and never slowed down, upsetting No. 4 seed MICDS 10-4. After a loss to top-seeded De Smet, Oakville upset No. 3 seed St. Louis University High 10-6 to tie its best finish in school history. Team members, front row, from left, are: Jon Gannon, Chase Jarvis, Brett Walters, Brad Hammel and Eduardo Quintero. Back row, from left, are: Coach Dan Schoenfeldt, Andrew Shelton, Matt Dawson, Nick Selinger, Brian Kaestner, Dino Galic and Assistant Coach Jeff Capizzi.
