Ward 3 official resigns from Green Park board

Green Park Ward 3 Alderman Mark Hay-den tendered his resignation last week, citing “personal reasons.”

A special Board of Aldermen meeting was scheduled Monday evening — after the Call went to press — to consider Mayor Tony Konopka’s appointment to the vacant seat.

Whoever is appointed to Hayden’s seat will serve until the term expires next April.

“I have enjoyed my time and considered it a privilege to serve the citizens of Green Park, but at this time due to personal reasons I am stepping aside to allow someone else to take over and step up to represent our city,” Hayden wrote in a Sept. 9 resignation letter.

Hayden was serving his fifth term as alderman.

He first was elected to the board in 2001, defeating Hank David to fill the Ward 3 seat vacated by Steve Armstrong, who successfully ran for mayor that year.

Hayden was unopposed for re-election in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. In 2007, he was the only incumbent in Green Park to be re-elected.
