Mark Sime has been appointed Crestwood’s new city administrator.

The Board of Aldermen approved Mayor Jeff Schlink’s appointment of Sime in a 7-0 vote Tuesday night. Ward 1 Alderman Mimi Duncan was absent.

Sime, a Crestwood resident, currently is employed as a consultant of transportation and logistics “back to the United States transportation command at Scott Air Force Base,” Sime told the board.

He also served the U.S. Air Force for 26 years.

Former Fire Chief Karl Kestler had served as acting city administrator since March, when then-City Administrator Petree Eastman left the position.

A new city administrator was scheduled to be appointed in Crestwood Tuesday night — after the Call went to press.

Former Fire Chief Karl Kestler has served as acting city administrator since March, when then-City Administrator Petree Eastman left the city after serving roughly five months. Eastman earned $98,000 annually before her separation with the city.

Kestler received an additional $1,500 per month in compensation for the additional duties he performed before his Jan. 1 retirement.

Mayor Jeff Schlink announced the formation of a City Administrator Candidate Search Committee at the Board of Aldermen’s June 26 meeting. Ward 1 Alderman Mimi Duncan, Ward 3 Alderman Paul Duchild and Ward 4 Alderman Dan Tennessen were selected for the committee.

Since its formation, the search committee conducted roughly three open meetings and two closed sessions.

In a separate matter, the board was scheduled to discuss “strategies and alternatives for a future tax increase,” according to information provided to aldermen.

“At Alderman Tennesen’s request, and with approval from Mayor Schlink, this item was placed on the agenda for Board of Aldermen discussion,” the information stated.
