An Affton man was charged today — Thursday, Aug. 31 — with robbing the PNC Bank in Affton last week and a Schnucks in Richmond Heights earlier this week.

Eric Dooley, 43, of the 5100 block of Weber Road, faces charges of first-degree robbery and stealing over $750 and is being held on $50,000 cash-only bond.

Dooley was identified by multiple witnesses as the man who committed the robberies at PNC Bank and Schnucks, according to a probable-cause statement. At PNC Bank, 8930 Gravois Road in Affton, he allegedly threatened to kill a PNC teller while he was demanding money, according to police.

On Monday, Dooley allegedly demanded money from a cash register at the Schnucks customer-service counter.

Surveillance video indicated the same man was behind both robberies. Police had earlier released photos to enlist the public’s help identifying the Affton bank robber.

“Thank you to everyone who gave this matter attention and disseminated the information to their viewers/listeners/readers,” county police spokesman Officer Benjamin Granda stated in a news release. “It certainly aided our department in the apprehension of this individual.”

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons led the agency’s investigation into the bank robbery, and the Richmond Heights Police Department investigated the Schnucks incident.

The departments worked together to make an arrest in the cases, Granda stated in the release.

Police are searching for a suspect in a robbery of the PNC Bank today — Thursday, Aug. 24 — in Affton, the second time the bank has been robbed in two years.

Detectives from the Affton Southwest Precinct responded to the bank, 8930 Gravois Road, at roughly 1:12 p.m.

The suspect, described as a white man possibly in his 40s, implied to a bank teller that he had a weapon and took and undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

The man fled the bank on foot, police said. No one was injured in the robbery.

Police released clear surveillance photos of the man. He was wearing a baseball cap and dark shorts.

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating the robbery.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the suspect or the robbery to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at (636) 529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477).
