Lindbergh High School’s 12th annual Sunday Night Lights is back this year in a new form.

Typically the event would be a football game under the lights held for children battling life-threatening illnesses, who participate to fulfill their dreams of being a varsity football player, cheerleader, pom dancer or band member. 

This year due to COVID, the event is a parade titled “Sunday Night Love.” The parade begins Sunday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. at LHS, 500 Lindbergh Blvd., and the school invites residents to line the parade route.

“It is our hope and prayer that the campus will be lined with district students, LHS clubs, teams and community members who will come out to show their love and support for these young children, their siblings and families who are battling unimaginable health issues. The community support is so important and uplifting for our Hero families,” Lori Krueger, creator of Sunday Night Lights stated. 

Sunday Night Lights began in 2010 when freshman Jake Franzel was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The event was started to honor Jake and other children with similar stories. Jake lost his battle with cancer, but his memory lives on through Sunday Night Lights and in the children that this event inspires. One of the main goals of the event has been to help end childhood cancer.
