Two South County elected officials were recently fined by the Missouri Ethics Commission regarding their April municipal election campaigns.
According to reports from the MEC, both Sunset Hills Ward 2 Alderman Marie Davis and Lindbergh Schools Board of Education Director Christy Watz were fined by the commission for improper finance reporting and campaign ads, respectively.
Davis was fined up to $2,000 for failing to file all campaign expenses in a quarterly report, as well as failing to file a finance report by the deadline prior to the election, which is eight days, the MEC report said. Davis was elected April 4 to the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen.
Watz, who was elected April 4 to the Lindbergh school board, was fined $100 by the MEC for failing to disclose on her campaign flyers and yard signs that they were “Paid for by the Committee to Elect Christy Watz” along with the campaign treasurer’s name and title.
Both campaigns signed consent orders with the MEC. According to Davis’s consent order, as long as her campaign pays $200 of the fee within 45 days of the order being issued, the rest of the fee will be waived for a two-year period. As long as the campaign does not commit any further violations, the rest of the fee will be dissolved.
