The suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Affton died at a local hospital Saturday.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, Karl Schuhe, 59, of the 9100 block of Rambler Drive, was pronounced deceased at an area-hospital Sept. 23 after being shot by police during a call for service Sept. 20.

According to police, the shooting occurred on the front porch of a home in the 9100 block of Rambler Drive last Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a call for a domestic disturbance regarding an adult male suspect who was intoxicated and refusing to allow the caller to leave the residence.

Police said officers were advised that the suspect was armed with a handgun and made threats against law enforcement if they responded to the residence.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was allegedly on the front porch of the residence with a handgun in each hand. Police said officers told the suspect “numerous” times to drop the guns and attempted to deescalate the situation.  According to police, the suspect refused to comply and instead raised one of the guns in the direction of one of the officers. Both officers and the suspect fired their weapons; the suspect was struck by gunfire in the exchange.

Police said the officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect, who was then transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two handguns were recovered from the suspect at the scene.

The officers involved in the incident are 38 years of age with three and a half years of law enforcement experience, and 29 years of age with one and a half years of experience. Neither officer was injured.

Last Thursday, the prosecuting attorney’s office charged Schuhe with first-degree attempted assault of a special victim and armed criminal action.
