Crestwood Elementary School students recently explored the cultures and customs of the world during the school’s fourth annual Cultural Day. Eighteen booths — each representing the native home of a student in Crestwood’s English Language Learners program — were set up in the school gym. Students received a passport and traveled to three predetermined countries. At each country, ‘travel guides’ put a passport sticker in each child’s passport to represent that country. Students played games, sampled food, and learned about the countries where some of their classmates were born. Above, third-grader Ida Fan teaches classmates about her culture with a Chinese lantern.
