Students at Lindbergh High collect hundreds of shoes for Guatemala

Children and adults in Teculatan, Guate-mala, received 1,289 pairs of shoes this summer thanks in part to the generosity of Lindbergh High School students.

Lindbergh High School Class of 1981 graduate Diana Delia Thompson spearheaded the campaign last fall to collect tennis shoes for residents of “the Dump,” an impoverished area in Teculatan where people live with very few resources, according to a news release. Many residents do not have shoes at all.

After hearing about the campaign, students in Lindbergh High Spanish classes brought 471 pairs of shoes to help make Thompson’s effort a reality. Other schools and churches in the area pitched in as well, the release stated.
