St. Paul School, Fenton, beat out eight other local elementary schools to win a $1,000 check at the Young at Art Show, the fourth annual art show at Fountain View Assisted Living, Friendship Village Sunset Hills.
For the second consecutive year, Holy Cross Academy, Crestwood, took second place and a $500 prize with more than 550 total community votes cast in the contest, according to a news release. St. Paul also won the first Young at Art Show in 2010.
On display from early May, the Young at Art Show kicked off with an open house showing as many as 20 pieces of art in any medium, of any size, from students at each of the nine participating local elementary and parochial schools.
During the exhibition, visitors voted — one vote per person — on the best school gallery display with St. Paul and Holy Cross mounting the most votes.
Sarah Dalrymple, Fountain View residency counselor, said in the release that the Young at Art Show celebrates art and the art of being young with the Fountain View Assisted Living senior community.
Erin Rogers, assisted living director, noted that expansion and program development continue at Fountain View. She said the community will launch a new program aimed at memory care this spring.
Participating schools included a cross-section of area private elementary and parochial schools: Apprende and Christ Community Lutheran, both in Kirkwood; Rohan Woods and St. Paul’s Lutheran, both in St. Louis; Twin Oaks Christian School and Christ Prince of Peace, both in Ballwin; Our Lady Queen of Peace, House Springs; as well as the two winners.
