A St. Louis city man was charged May 30 for resistiing arrest, stealing and other charges.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office charged Herman Williams, 21, of the 800 block of Schirmer Street, 63111, for unlawful use of an illegal weapon, resisting arrest and stealing. The charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty. He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
According to a probable cause statement from the St. Louis County Police Department, on May 29, officers responded to calls of the subject stealing from two stores at the South County Mall. Responding officers met with off-duty officers who witnessed the defendant flee the premises.
Later, police caught up to Herman Williams, who matched the description of the subject who had stolen from the mall. Police issued several commands for Williams to stop, which he ignored, continuing to flee. After a chase and a struggle, officers apprehended him and found he was carrying a gun modified to be fully automatic illegally. During a search following his arrest, they also found a clear plastic bag with a white powdery substance. Williams admitted that the bag contained “crack” mixed with someone else’s prescription medication, which he had traded for the automatic firearm.
