Eighth grader Hanna Song from Sperreng Middle School has been named one of 13 winners in the St. Louis area with this year’s St. Louis County Department of Public Health Healthy Living Calendar Contest.
The Healthy Living Calendar Contest is an annual art competition where St. Louis County students from kindergarten all the way through twelfth grade submit artwork that illustrates healthy living habits. For years, Sperreng students have submitted their artwork to the contest.
Only 13 students out of 700 entries had their artwork featured in the calendar — Song was one of them. She says that her passion for drawing and creativity emerged at a young age, and she continues to practice her craft as a middle school student. Her winning illustration shows a hamburger hidden in a basket of fruit, with the heading, “Who is the imposter?”
“It’s showing that fruits are good for you and (people) should eat them more instead of eating fast food,” Song said. “It’s important to keep good health.”
