The Special School District of St. Louis Governing Council is holding a special election for an open seat on the Board of Education for Subdistrict 1 in April.

Subdistrict 1 represents the Hazelwood, Maplewood-Richmond Heights and Jennings school districts. Applications for interested candidates are available for pick-up at SSD’s Central Office, 12110 Clayton Road, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 28. Information packets and applications must be picked up and returned to SSD Central Office by the candidate; they will not be mailed. Filing will not occur on days when the district’s offices are closed.

The Governing Council, which elects members to the SSD Board of Education, was unable to elect a Subdistrict 1 candidate at its meeting in March due to lack of a quorum. According to bylaws, a new election must be held for the open seat at the next scheduled Governing Council meeting,

The Governing Council is comprised of one Board of Education member from each of the 22 school districts in St. Louis County.
