The South County YMCA, 12736 Southfork Road, broke ground on a new adaptive sports complex Sept. 7.

The project is in partnership with Cardinals Care, the Gateway Region YMCA, Boniface Foundation and the Miracle League.

“The Gateway Region YMCA currently serves more than 1,550 children and adults with diverse abilities, and this new facility will allow us to expand our work in the region,” Tim Helm, president and CEO of the Gateway Region YMCA, stated.  “We are so grateful to the St. Louis Cardinals and Cardinals Care, Boniface Foundation, and Miracle League, for this tremendous investment to build what will be the nation’s premiere adaptive sports complex to provide equal opportunities to this underserved community.”

The $5.2 million complex features a new soccer field, playground, seating and the centerpiece of the project, a “custom-designed Miracle League Baseball Field with a cushioned, barrier-free surface and barrier-free dugout to provide accessibility for players with disabilities.”

The field is designed to mimic Busch Stadium and will have a Gateway Arch silhouette on the outfield.
