Five south county athletes were members of the St. Louis Community College Archers girls’ soccer team that finished the season ranked 10th in the nation.
Four of the athletes are freshmen — Colleen McCommish and captain Annie Miskovic, both graduates of Oakville Senior High, and Katie Rapisardo and Lauren Guerrero, both graduates of Mehlville Senior High.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meggin Werner is a graduate of Mehlville Senior High.
The STLCC-Archers had a record of 16-3-1 before advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association na-tional tournament in Melbourne, Fla.
This was the first time that a women’s soccer team from STLCC-Archers advanced to the national tournament, ac-cording to a news release.
The team previously won its district tournament in Normal, Ill., to advance to the national event.
The four freshmen athletes also play club soccer together for the Kolping Kicks Soccer Club in south county. A large percentage of the athletes in the Kolping Kicks soccer club come from the Oakville/Mehlville area and many attend one of the two high schools and play soccer there.
Miskovic and Guerrero also were on the Missouri State Cup winning team this past June with Tony Schmitt’s Kolping Kicks U18 girls’ squad. The Kolping Kicks team lost in the regional finals, just one step from advancing to the U.S. Youth Soccer Association national finals.
