The Sappington House Foundation hosts an open house at the Joseph Sappington Cabin in November 2021 ahead of the cabin’s disassembly, move and reassembly at a Crestwood park. The cabin was built in 1816 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Historic Thomas Sappington House, 1015 S. Sappington Road, is hosting multiple fundraising events to support the renovation of the house, as well as the relocation of the dismantled Joseph Sappington log cabin family house.

Once the log structure is moved and repurposed, it will be opened in mid-2025 as a multi-purpose center with spaces for exhibits, educational activities and meeting/events.

To raise money, the St. Louis chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) published a book about the 2016-2019 archaeological excavation at Historic Sappington House. Students from nine high schools, including Lindbergh Schools, participated in some of the dig.

The book will be on sale for $15 at the Loft Gift Shop, above The Barn restaurant, an extension of the non-profit Sappington House Foundation. Proceeds will go towards the relocation project.

Additionally, there will be three outdoor concerts – the first is Friday, Sept. 8 from 6 – 9 p.m. featuring “Nostalgia,” the second is Sept. 30 from 5 – 8 p.m. featuring “Rock Opera,” and the third Oct. 14 from 4 – 7 p.m. featuring “Fix Newton.”

Each week the gate will open one hour before showtime. Tickets are $20 for adults, and free for children under 12. There will also be 50/50 chances and mystery gift card boxes for sale. Bring your own lawn chairs, food and drinks – but no glass containers are allowed. Parking will be available across the street at Crestwood Elementary School, and south of the pond in the Reco Avenue overflow lot.
