Ross Dress for Less to open in Sunset Hills

Filling former Cenveo building next challenge, mayor says

Sunset Hills officials expect to add another clothing outlet to the city before the end of the year.

Mayor Bill Nolan said Ross Dress for Less, a clothing store similar to TJ Maxx, is expected to open in October in the former CompUSA location at 3614 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

“They have applied for initial permits in Sunset Hills,” Nolan said. “That’s how we’re sure they’re coming.”

Nolan said so far all the clothing store has done is apply for its business license.

“(They) applied for a permit to remodel it,” Nolan said. “That’s all they’ve done at this point.”

The CompUSA building has been vacant for about four or five years, according to Nolan.

The mayor also told the Call there was discussion about Ross Dress for Less locating in the former Borders space at Sunset Plaza, but Stein Mart “stepped up and took it.” Stein Mart opened March 15.

The addition of Ross Dress for Less is going to make Sunset Hills “an apparel center,” according to Nolan.

The city’s current clothing stores include Stein Mart and David’s Bridal. Nolan said he has heard Toys “R” Us will be adding Kids “R” Us to its location as well.

“(There will be) no physical expansion of the space,” he said. “(They’re) just bringing another new product line to their mix, and it was kids clothes.”

Nolan told the Call that filling vacant buildings is a wonderful thing for Sunset Hills.

“I can only hope that we can find somebody now for the old Cenveo building. That’s our next challenge,” he said.
