A retired firefighter hopes a Dalmatian figurine that has been a fixture in his yard for the past 13 years is returned.
Alex Sonnenschein, 86, a former member of the Crestwood Fire Department and the Lemay Fire Protection District said someone took the 200-pound concrete fire dog from the front yard of his home in the 10000 block of Edgecliffe Drive in Green Park about a month ago.
“I retired 26 years ago,” he told the Call. “I put the Dalmatian in my yard after my wife died 13 years ago. It would mean a lot to me to get it back.”
Sonnenschein said he believes someone borrowed the dog as a prank.
“It would have taken two guys to lift it,” he said. “I had a little plastic fire helmet on its head. They didn’t take the fire hydrant next to the Dalmatian.”
