This year marks a once-in-a-decade chance for the public to weigh in on the redistricting process in Missouri.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 16 there are seven public hearings across the state to allow the public to comment on the subject, two of which are in St. Louis.

The first is the Missouri Senate Commission Hearing Saturday, Oct. 16 followed by the Missouri House Commission Hearing Thursday, Oct. 21 both at 10 a.m. at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel.

Written testimony can be submitted at https://oa.mo.gov/budget-planning/redistricting-office/public-testimony.

The League of Women Voters of Missouri released a press release Tuesday encouraging citizens to attend the meetings.

“Fair maps are more likely to be achieved when the public is actively involved in the process,” President Marilyn McLeod stated. “Legislative redistricting has a major impact on many aspects of our lives: education, healthcare, the environment and, most importantly, the voices of the people. The final maps will determine what district we live in, who represents us, and how resources are allocated for our communities for the next 10 years.”

The League of Women Voters of Missouri is a nonpartisan political organization that was founded in October 1919 to educate and empower voters. For more information, go to https:\\lwvmissouri.org.
