The Queen of All Saints St. Louis Slug-gers recently returned home after volunteering their services for a week in Joplin.

Seventeen people volunteered their time to assist in the effort to rebuild Joplin, according to a news release. Volunteers included Bruce Bange, Emanuela Catarinicchia, John Catarinicchia, Pat Downey, Dave Erxleben, Bob Edwards, Dale Green, Joe Hogan, Fred Keeve, Merce Knese, Tom Knese, Jerry Mueller, Mike Ogolin, Dave Theurer, Eric Treptow, Jim Urke and Joe Wetzel.

Six members of the crew framed a three-bedroom Habitat for Humanity home. The balance of the crew was assigned to assist in completing an addition to the Watered Gardens Gospel Rescue Mission for the homeless of Joplin. Many tasks were tackled and completed on schedule, including:

• Building a landing and steps.

• Constructing an enclosure for a fire suppression system.

• Assisting the electrical contractor wiring their new commercial kitchen.

• Rerouting gas lines and moving two gas ranges.

• Making preparations to relocate an en-tire kitchen.

• Completing two suspended ceilings in classrooms.

At the completion of the projects, the group was awarded the key to the city of Joplin for outstanding performance during five trips that contributed to the disaster recovery. The presentation was made by Councilman Jack Golden, a former Missouri Army National Guard commander.

The Sluggers’ next trip tentatively is sched-uled for April. For more information, send an email to jmule2001@yahoo.com.
