St. Louis County Police warn Asian residents of rising burglary trend

The St. Louis County Police Department is encouraging Asian residents to be aware of a burgalry crime trend.

According to police, over the past several weeks, the department has been taking reports of burglaries targeting Asian residents. Police said several of the victims work or own Asian businesses.

Officers remind all residents to secure jewelry and large amounts of currency in the bank or a safe secured to the floor. Anyone who is a crime victim or suspects criminal actiity should call the department at 636-529-8210. For immediate emergencies, call 911.

The department also offers these burglary prevention tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings as you travel to and from your place of business
  • Tell your neighbors to be on the lookout for any suspicious vehicles in the area
  •  Make sure exterior surveillance cameras are turned on and functioning
  • Set up hidden cameras inside your home
  • Lock all doors and windows, make sure the overhead garage door is closed
  • Do not keep large amounts of cash inside the home
  • Place all valuable jewelry in a safe or hide the jewelry in a place you would not normally keep it. Do not put your jewelry in a jewelry box in the bedroom on top of a dresser
  • Remove or trim any overgrown shrubs that are blocking the view of exterior doors to the residence
