Hope was in the hearts of students at Point Elementary in the Mehlville School District when the Beta Club presented Basket of Hope with a check for $2,800, according to a district news release.

The Basket of Hope program was founded by Angela Brunette after her daughter Christina, who is currently a junior at Oakville Senior High School, was diagnosed with cancer in 1995.

The baskets are filled with toys, books, games, stuffed animals and other fun items for children who are newly diagnosed with cancer.

Angela Brunette told students during the presentation that Point Elementary is the largest contributor of schools in the United States to Basket of Hope.

Throughout the years, students have contributed $13,000 to the program.

Christina shared with students how touching it is for children to receive a Basket of Hope while battling cancer.

A chance for a miracle has inspired Point students since 2000 to continue their support of Baskets for Hope, the release stated.

The Beta Club joined forces with the National Junior Honor Society at Point Elementary to have students bring their spare change before school to participate in a “jar wars” contest.

An ice cream party was awarded to every winning class and a pizza party was awarded to the overall winning class.

There are 43 students in the Point Beta Club. Sponsors are teachers Carole Prince and Sheila Serati.
