Dozens of people gathered along Telegraph Road leading to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery Wednesday for the funeral procession of Scott “Scotty” Wirtz, 42, of St. Louis, who was killed by a suicide bomber in Syria on Jan. 16.

Wirtz grew up in St. Louis County and was a graduate of De Smet Jesuit High School. He spent eight years in the U.S. Navy before joining the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2017.

A memorial mass was held Wednesday morning at the Cathedral Basilica, followed by burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
